14 days …

February 24, 2007

Well, I have now been in the UK for 14 days. Not too bad so far. Nothing real exciting to write home about but I did call home just to see how things are on that side of the world. Just to rub it in, they advised me that it is pretty hot over there and the dog doesn’t like it at all. Think me and the dog should change places just to see what he would really like!!!

Have been working this week to ensure that I can pay the bills that need to be paid and so that I can do a few trips around Europe while I am here. That is the main reason to be here. Much easier to get on a plane a fly to places in Europe then it is from Australia. And quicker too. Nothing worse than a 24hour flight to get somewhere is it.

At this stage looking to go to Gallipoli in April so have to go and try and sort all that out in the next week or so before there is no more room at the inn. After that I will have to see what other adventures I can go on. But a definite one is the Tour De France which will be starting in London this year before going to France on the 3rd day. I intend to be in France too for the end of the Tour just a matter of whether I go for a few days or a little longer. I would like to see some of the Alps or Pyrenees.

Until next time ….

Where’s the Sun?

February 20, 2007

Well I have been here in Margate Kent for just over a week now. It isn’t too bad a place but of the 10 days I have been here, only 3 of them if you are lucky has had some resemblance of sunshine. And that is if you can call it that. As I mentioned to a friend, I had felt more heat from a light bulb then from the sun I feel here. But I keep telling myself that it can only get better.

I haven’t told you about the flight over here yet or much of anything really so I guess I will do that now.

The flight wasn’t too bad although it got off to a bad start when I was standing at the terminal waiting to get on the plane and was forced to watch the Australian Cricket team walk backwards and forwards between the dressing room as they kept on getting out in the three game final series against the English. I didn’t get to see the end of the innings but my little brother was quick to let me know the score when I arrived via sms stating we had lost quite convincingly. Not a good thing coming in to the World Championships in a few months.

I was in an isle seat for the flight so that was a good thing as it allowed me to put the legs out in the aisle. Probably much to the disgust of the airline staff walking up and down all the time. It was next to the toilets and I originally thought that this would be a bad thing but it wasn’t too bad. I think everyone was using the ones at the back fo the plane.

The thing about flying to England is the long periods of nothing on the plane and unless you are in business or first class, I would doubt that anyone can really say that they get a good sleep on the plane. I did a get a few hours here and there but it really wasn’t the best. The stop in Singapore wass good even though it was basically just for an hour it was plenty of opportunity to stretch the legs and relieve the bum muscles for a bit.

Upon arrival in England, I was greeted by the cold air. Not a good thing having left a glorious day in Sydney behind – and I hear that it has been pretty damn good since too except for a day or two of some much needed rain.

Estee met me at the airport and then took me away off to the train for the trip into Margate which took us about 1:45 travel time. We stopped for a bit for something to eat drink before making the trip just so I wasn’t continuously in a crapped conditions.

Since then basically I have been scoping out around the place to see what there is and what there isn’t. Essentially there isn’t too much here but that isn’t a bad thing as it means nothing to sepend the $$ on but at the same time it means the kids around this place have nothing to do and well appear to cause some trouble around town from time to time. The place is a bit of old tourist beach side resort in its time and while it may be past it in some ways, I am sure come summer the crowds will be back here for their fun in the sun.

I caught up with my mate Darren who I will be some work for over the next 6 months and discussed everything except work. Was a good little lunch had by all.

Anyway … time to go for now so until next time whenever that may be take care … and remember to send some of the sun this way if you are in Australia!!!

The Final Countdown

February 2, 2007

Well, there is one week to go before I jump on an airplane and head off to England and start to do some work over there … after a few days lounging about in the sun and getting accustomed to life over there of course.

The last week has been a wee bit strange. Moving all the furniture out of the unit and moving it my brothers place to store for the next 6 months. And before that there was the actual issue of building the place to store it. That was an interesting experience to do as well. But not too bad and all is finished for that so that is a good thing from the perspective of all those involved in the move. The brother will have a good little work area when I take my car and other possessions back upon my return.

I haven’t been doing too much the past week other than organising some finance and watching the world go past from the parents place in nice warm temperatures. Nice scenary looking over the lake. But that will all change next week when I arrive in the land of the cold weather and warm beer.

Accommodation has all been sorted out and paid for so that is a good thing and the people I will be doing some work for reckon they have got a wee bit of work for me to do. So that will keep me occupied.

Was looking into taking my bike across so I can get fit … *cough cough* … but nearly choked on the prices for such a move. Will pretty much be cheaper to buy the bike when I get there and sell it before I return. Well, that is an option anyway so will see what happens and how the mood takes me when I get there.

Until next time … look after yourself and be good ….
