Well it was an early rise and we had to be on the bus for a 0600 departure. As in the movie Good Morning Vietnam it was a case of ‘what does the o stand for in 0600 …. o my god its early!’. And it showed too with some of the people not being up and getting on the bus about 20 or 30 minutes late. Not a good start and Sammy was not impressed either and he let us know. Our bus, bus No. 5, was told in no uncertain terms. Sammy got on the bus and said …
I woke up this morning at 0300 to make this trip good for you. If you F*** with me I will F*** with you! You know this saying in Australia?
From this point on, we seemed to be on the bus on time or very close to it. Sammy appeared to be the guy that you didn’t F*** with! We would all agree though (other than those that were late) that it was unfair on those that were up on time and ready to go. But all is good as our driver Osman had a heavy foot and got us back on time and in front of most of the other buses that were on our tour.
Today was a day were we went down to Gallipoli (which is actually called Gallibelo) to see ANZAC Cove and some of the War Cemetaries in the area before the large crowds turned up. It was very impressive to see the terrain that the ANZACS had to contend with all those years ago as they landed on the beach in the dark. The pictures say it all.
We then had to get on a Ferry to get across to our accomodation for the night at Endremit, which was a little drive away but worth while when you saw the view that we had over the Mediterranean. The accommodation itself could have been better, like higher doorways for example but it wasn’t really too bad. We lounged around near the pool for a bit and then went off for dinner and then bed as there wasn’t too much to do in the area unless you wanted to go next door to the Officers quarters and the military base next door. Not sure they would let you in though.
