The traffic lights out here are good in that they change to orange before they go green so that is good as it means that the bloke in the front is woken up and ready to go when they go green.
BUT … The pedestrian lights are a bit dangerous in my view, because when the car lights flash orange they can move off as long as the pedestrians are not on the road. BUT the issue is the pedestrian lights are GREEN!! This means that someone can come running from the footpath and cross the road and still be in the right.
This is so wrong and the poor motorists will get the book thrown at them!
If the car lights are changed to orange, then the pedestrian lights should be red.
Is should know that this can happen as I nearly cleaned up a 4 year old(?) some months ago who went running across the road in front of me while her mother was telling her to run quickly and get across the road. Fortunately for the child, the mother and, myself I was on my pushbike so there wasn’t too much potential damage to the kid.
Now, I couldn’t figure out why she said it was still green when mine was flashing orange. I know when it was orange you make sure that the pedestrians are off the road before moving off. You shouldn’t have to worry about someone running across in front of you because they are given a green light at the same time.
If you did that at a cross road intersection with cars, you can imagine the carnage as people start moving through the intersection. You may as well not have traffic lights there at all and let people have a free for all!
