Weather …

Yes, I know. This is an old one that gets dragged out all the time. But lets face it, it a very different climate and one that even the Brits are running away from. This is evidenced by all the shows on tv that promote living abroad. There is Home or Abroad, Living in the Sun (no not in the UK, but in Spain or Portugal) and several others that I have seen but can’t remember. One must admit though that there aren’t as many living away shows as there are celebrity chef shows!!!

The weather here isn’t too bad when it is nice but here in Margate, so far, those days haven’t been very many. I will admit that there was a period of about 2 weeks in April (remember I wasn’t here for 1 week so it could be 3 weeks) where the sun was out and the temperature was in the low to mid 20’s. To me that is still sort of cool, but then that could have been due to the North Easterly that was coming of the sea.

But here was a beach of English trying to get cooled off from the blistering heat wave that was being experienced. Yes it was warm, but I don’t think there was a need to strip off the gear and lay on the beach or even worse, go for a swim!!!! The water was probably a blistering 5degrees Celsius!!

Then on the news, they start talking about how the summer could be extremely warm – tropical even – and that they water authority is looking at the water reserves they have available fearing that there will be a drought. Uhm … hello !!!! Build a few bigger dams or reservoirs and you shouldn’t have these issues. I mean come on lets face it, the UK does get a consistent amount of rain each year with a very small variation in that level compared to others.

In Australia, one of the major dams near Sydney is about 37% I Live in Sydney (or 59% Sydney Catchment Area Press Release depending on who you talk too. But then look at the dam level figures for Sydney). Either way, you have to admit that Sydney has a bigger water issue that the UK does.

I will admit though, it doesn’t rain everyday. It is however, cloudy on 90% of the days and the temperature is lucky to reach about 18 on most days.

Your pray for sun … we pray from rain …
